‍What remote working means  ?

Since covid 19, the number of remote workers has increased considerably. But for those who don't know, remote working is defined like the activity of working at home, while communicating with your office by phone or email, or using the internet.

If you want to work from home, there are a few tips to keep in mind. 

Find the good rythme

Even if you work from home, you need to keep a rhythm. Wake up at a decent time (8am) and take breaks. If you have a rhythm that doesn't match the traditional work schedule, that's fine, but keep it the same all week long. Otherwise, you may not be motivated to work anymore. 

Dress for work

You wouldn't think of going to work without getting dressed and brushing your teeth. For working remotely, it must be the same. Getting dressed before work helps to keep the right rhythm. Staying at home all day in your pyjamas is demotivating, even depressing. You have to be ready at all times for a Skype call with your colleagues or boss. Of course, you don't have to wear a suit and polished shoes, but a shirt and trousers are better than a jogging suit. 

The importance of the workplace

Working at home doesn’t mean working on the sofa in front of a Netflix series. To work well, you need a dedicated space, free of distractions. A room where you won't hear the washing machine ringing or your children playing. 

This piece should reflect your seriousness so be careful to keep your private life, private!

When you are in a video conference with your boss, let nothing but a neutral wall and a small plant appear on the screen behind you. 

Stay connected

Many people report that they do not call their colleagues who are working remotely because they do not want to disturb them. Remember, you are working, not on holiday at home! 

So take the time to update your colleagues to show that work is progressing. And no matter what anyone says, work moves faster when you work as a team. 

The essential tools for the remote employee: 

• Use Skype or Teams or another instant messager to stay connected by video with yours colleagues.
• Have a high performance Wi-Fi

Why all compagnies have to do remote ? 

There are many reasons for an employee to work remotely, but there are also reasons for the employer. 

• Work at home gives opportunities for flexible working hours
• More time so more physical activity
• From an ecological point of view, it allows to reduced traffic, commuting time to decrease in air pollution across urban areas.
• It saves time and improves physical and mental health
• It makes happy. The happy peoples leads to higher productivity 
• An employee working at home has a real comfort of life, he is more loyal to the company than a basic employee. 
• A remote worker does not use the printer, does not drink the company’s coffee, does not incur any travel costs. A remote worker does not take a place in the expensive offices of the company. So it allows to lower operating costs for many companies.
